Welcome to SNUG (Supporting Neonatal Users and Graduates), the mentoring and befriending service for parents of babies born sick or prematurely in Devon.
Every year 2200 babies are admitted into neonatal care in Devon. At SNUG we understand that having your baby admitted to a neonatal unit can turn your world upside down and can lead to a sense of isolation, not to mention a huge range of emotions.
SNUG aims to reduce this resultant stress and anxiety that such an experience may cause, and to improve parent confidence and strengthen their community links. Whether you have recently been admitted to the neonatal unit or have been discharged home for some time, SNUG are here to help.
SNUG operates on across several different platforms to ensure that parents will receive the support that best suits them at any given time. We provide trained parent volunteers to Devon neonatal units so that new mums and dads have the opportunity to talk to someone who has been there before, without having to leave their new baby’s side. This can be a one-off information and advice session or become a regular mentoring and befriending scheme.
Alongside this, SNUG also operate an online forum for parents and run monthly post-neonatal groups, all across Devon to ensure all our members have a chance to attend. These run in partnership with partner service providers and offer a chance for parents to forge new friendships, support families and their integration into other services and facilitate learning for professionals around the needs and experiences of neonatal families and the barriers they may feel.
